Winter Bucks

Winter Bucks are Back!

What is a Winter Buck?

A Winter Buck is a coupon distributed by The Relentless Dragon between a specific day and time in November (November 24, in 2023) and December 31, while supplies last, that is valid in January of the following year. When you make a purchase, in-store only, for almost (see below) any physical item, other than gift cards, that is priced over $10 (not $9.99!) during the distribution period, you will receive one or more Winter Buck coupons in a quantity that depends on your purchase. For every 10 whole dollars that you spend, you will receive one Winter Buck (which may take the form of a Five-Buck coupon, if applicable). In January, you may exchange, in-store only, the Winter Bucks distributed in the previous calendar year for up to 50% off a purchase. Winter Bucks must be spent in quantities of one whole coupon at a time (see examples, below). Winter Bucks have no intrinsic cash value, and are valid only between January 1 and January 31, inclusive, of the following calendar year. On February 1, they become worthless paper souvenirs!

How do I get Winter Bucks?

You can get Winter Bucks by purchasing physical objects other than gift cards during the distribution period. The distribution period is defined as “from Thanksgiving until December 31 OR until all the Winter Bucks are gone, whichever comes sooner.” There are a limited number of Winter Bucks available, and they are available in denominations of 1 and 5 Winter Bucks. If one or the other denomination is entirely given away before the end of December, only the other denomination will be left to give away. So if all the 1-Buck coupons are given away and there are still 5-Buck coupons left, only purchases over $50 will be eligible, and only in increments of $50.

Can I get Winter Bucks for buying things on sale?

Yes! If the total of the sale, excluding gift cards and items marked at more than 40% off retail price, is eligible for Winter Bucks, you get them in an appropriate number.

Where can I use Winter Bucks?

You may use your Winter Bucks in-store only. Unfortunately, our online system is not set up to accept Winter Bucks.

When can I use Winter Bucks?

Winter Bucks are valid ONLY in January of the calendar year after they are issued. Please, please don’t ask us to honor them in February or later!

How do I use Winter Bucks?

When you make a purchase, give the cashier your Winter Buck(s) in a quantity up to 50% of your total in-stock non-sale purchase price. Winter Bucks must be used in their entirety, and no change can be made, so if you purchase an item under $2.00, the Winter Buck(s) will only apply to the first 50% of the purchase price (see examples, below), and the remainder will be forfeit. Winter Bucks must be in fair condition to be used–they can be a little worn, but if they’ve been through the laundry or a fire, they’re not valid.

Can I use Winter Bucks to buy items on sale?

No. Winter Bucks only apply to non-sale items.

What if I didn’t receive my Winter Bucks at the time of purchase?

While our employees are trained to distribute Winter Bucks with every eligible purchase, we’re only human. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that you receive your Winter Bucks at the time of purchase. They cannot be given retroactively.

What if I lose/destroy my Winter Bucks?

Winter Bucks that are lost, stolen, or destroyed CANNOT and WILL NOT be replaced! Keep them safe, and be sure to check your pockets before doing your laundry!

Can I trade/give my Winter Bucks to someone else?

Yes! We encourage you to give them away as gifts, or to use them as trade fodder to even up trades in the store.

Why can’t I get Winter Bucks for purchasing a gift card?

We had to make a decision whether to give Winter Bucks at the time a gift card was purchased, or to give them to people who buy things with the gift card. It was either/or, and this is the decision we made.

Can I get Winter Bucks when making a purchase with a gift card?

Yes!

I forgot to use my Winter Bucks during January, and it’s 10:00 a.m. on February 1, will you please take them?

Nope, sorry! Please don’t put our employees in the position of having to refuse you, and just don’t ask.

Examples

  1. You purchase an item marked $9.95 and pay $9.95 for it. You get zero Winter Bucks.
  2. You purchase an item marked $11.00 and pay $11.00 for it. You get one Winter Buck.
  3. You purchase an item marked $11.95, but it’s on sale for 20% off, so you pay $9.56 for it. You get zero Winter Bucks.
  4. You purchase an item marked $9.95 and add a drink to your order to reach a total of $10.95. You get one Winter Buck.
  5. You purchase an item marked $24.95 and pay $24.95 for it. You get two Winter Bucks.
  6. You purchase an item marked $49.95 and pay $49.95 for it. You get four Winter Bucks.
  7. You purchase an item marked $50.95 and pay $50.95 for it. You get five Winter Bucks. If there is no line behind you at the register, you may request to receive your Bucks as 1-Buck coupons or a 5-Buck coupon, if both are available. If there is a line, you will receive a 5-Buck coupon in order to expedite the line.
  8. You purchase several small items and the total value of the sale is $16.50. You get one Winter Buck.
  9. You make a purchase totaling $150.00, of which $50 was a gift card. You get ten Winter Bucks.
  10. You purchase two items on sale for $26.00 each, and their regular price is $50.00 each. Because these items are less than 50% off the original retail price, you get five Winter Bucks.
  11. You purchase three items on sale for $22.00 each, but their regular price is $50.00 each. Because these items are more than 50% off the original retail price, you get zero Winter Bucks.
