Settlers of Catan is an award-winning game invented by Klaus Tueber, a well-known German designer of board games. The original name of the game in German is Die Siedler von Catan. Since its invention, it has been translated into 25 languages.

The game is played by laying out a random series of hexagonal tiles (called "hexes") representing various types of land and water. Number tokens are then placed in random order on each of the non-desert hexes. Players then proceed to place their first settlements and roads one at a time and receive their initial resource cards. During play dice are rolled to determine which hexes generate resources each turn, trading of resources may be done, and additional settlements may be built or upgraded to cities. The game is won through the collection of victory points, earned by building settlements or drawing appropriate development cards. Variants of the basic game include the addition of knights, city walls, ships, barbarian pirates, the ability to fish, and much more.

With the pending storm and many people still dealing with the last storm, We had 3 people here to play tonight. We continued to add other variants to the game and we will be putting our variants here for download in the new year.

After a regular round of standard Settlers of catan, we tried a new variant that Jeff thought of, after playing a few games of Xplorers online at Aso Brain Games. We used the standard core set of hexes, replacing the desert with a gold field and then set the board up randomly upside down. Our first placement of settlements was completely random, based only on the face-up numbers on the board. First cards dealt included whichever hex the road for that settlement pointed to. With only three people playing, this resulted in almost all of the hexes being turned face-up initially... next time maybe we'll try with a larger board and more water to increase the mystery. It was a good game overall, though, I would play it again.

Six people participated in tonight's game of Seafarers of Catan. We only got one game in, with Erika coming in as winner after sitting on two gold fields with 9s on both!
November 28, 2008
We played Traders & Barbarians for the first time tonight, after Thanksgiving dinner in the store. Erika, Sergei, and Nathon played all night long, from 9pm to 6am, going through every one of the new Traders & Barbarians campaign scenarios! We wholeheartedly recommend this expansion, it adds an entirely new dimension to the game.
October 9 - November 28, 2008
We played Catan religiously, every Thursday night during this time, but missed updating the website. The number of players usually ranges from four to six. We are hoping to expand this number so we can have multiple tables running at once with 4+ players.
October 9, 2008
We ran three games of the original Settlers of Catan tonight with 4 players each time--a total of 5 individuals. Winners were Paul D., Autumn P., and Erika S.
